Legal awarness seminar at Katwa




21 July, Kolkata: Asian Human Rights Society (AHRS) organised a seminar on “Legal Awareness and Human Rights” at Rabindra Bhawan in Katwa in Burdwan district on 17 July. Abdul Gani, justice of Calcutta High Court was the chief speaker of the seminar.
Abdul Gani, justice of the Calcutta High Court said all the members of the National and State Legal Services Authorities should participate in the legal awareness seminars to aware people about the legal rights. He also emphasized that district judges, SDO, DM should participate in the legal awareness seminars to help people to know more about their legal rights. He also encouraged the NGOs those are organising the legal awareness seminars and asked them to organise such seminars in remote villages.
Atanu Roy, additional district judge and chairman of the Katwa subdivision Legal Services Authorities said that speakers should deliver their speech on human rights also. He explained the human rights and its historical aspects.
Kazi Sadik Hossain, all India general secretary of AHRS said government should set up human rights courts immediately to solve the human right violation cases.
Kundan Halder, human rights activist said State Human Rights Commission should act immediately to help the domestic violence victim for getting justice.
Parimal Das, vice president of the AHRS said they conferred 2010-Sarbottam Manabadhikar Mahajodha award to Debasish Garai, vice president of Katwa branch of AHRS, 2009- Bardhaman Jela Manabadhikar Mahajodha award to Soumitra Pandit and Paschimbanga Sarbottam Manabadhikar Mahajodha award to Dr Ujjal Kanti Sarkar.
