Guru Nanak Dev ji’s 546 birth day celebrated in city

Sikhs across Kolkata today celebrated the 546th birthday of Guru Nanak Dev ji, the first Sikh guru, with reverence. Several thousands of Sikh devotees gathered at the Saheed Minar ground, near Esplanade today and started prayer. .

Ragi jathas (singer of sacred hymns) and pracharaks  (scholars who interpret the holy Scriptures) came from across the country asked the devotees to follow the principles of  Guru Nanak Dev ji who always taught to live in peace and harmony.

The celebrations of the Guru's birth anniversary started on Sunday with nagar kirtan (procession). It was a three days event that started since Tuesday. The festivities would end on Thursday late night around 1.20 a.m, which is the actual time of birth of Guru Nanak who was born in Talwandi, now in Pakistan in 1469. Devotees from other community also took delicious prasad and a langar (community kitchen) was also set up where a large number devotees engaged them cooking prasad. Women and gents devotees were serving the prasad like chapatti, dal makhani, halua rice, vegitables.

Panchayat and rural development, Mr Subroto Mukherjee attended the birthday celebrations, The president of Shree Guru Singh Sabha, Kolkata, Bhupinder Singh Grewal said, around 1 lakh devotees took part in the annual event that is being celebrated jointly by all the gurudawaras of the city at one place.

The general secretary of the committee, Mr Sukhdev Singh Warna, said the state government helped them with  deploying the cops for the peaceful conduct of the event.

Lakhs of people to see raas yatra festival at Shantipur Nawadwip: Rail to run special trains

Few lakhs people will visit Shantipur and Nawadip for celebrating raas festival from tomorrow. Shantipur was the birthplace of Adaitya thakur and Nawadwip was the birth place of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Both place were the union centre of shakta and vaishnab. Pioneer of the raas festival was bara goswami para at Santipur. It was known folklore that forefather of Maharaja Krishnachandra had started raas yatra in 1706. Ten health camp were set up at Shantipur. Local municipality has asked the cleaning staffs to clean the ghat of River Ganges. Strong security arrangement has been made. Other goswai were active to spread this festival elsewhere. To cater to the rush of passengers /devotees during ‘Raas Yatra Utsav’ in Shantipur area, Eastern Railway’s Sealdah division will run one pair of EMU Special Train between Sealdah and Shantipur in the nights of 7/8 November & 8/9 .November, 2014. The Up EMU Special will leave Sealdah at 21:06 hrs. and reach Shantipur at  23:32 hrs. while the Down Special train leaving Shantipur at 00:10 hrs (.i.e. 12:10 a.m. , midnight)  will arrive at Sealdah station at 2:35 hrs. This Special train will stop at all stations enroute in both the directions.

Moreover, Eastern Railway has arranged stoppages of more EMU locals at Bathna Krittibas Halt station during ‘Raas Yatra Utsav’. As a temporary measure,   12 Up trains and 11 Down trains of Ranaghat-Shantipur-Krishnanagar section will provide additional stoppage at Bathna Krittibas Halt station from 6 to 9 November, 2014.

Mural Bhai attends Jagadharti puja in USA

Hundreds of devotees came to offer their puspanjali and puja at Dakhineswar Ramkrishna Sangha Adyapeath's New Jersey branch. Brahmachari Mural Bhai, general secretary of Dakhineswar Ramkrishna Sangha Adyapeath presented devotional songs. Resident priest Raja Goswami performed puja, said DRSA public relation officer Mr Madhusudan Mukherjee. He said Mural Bhai delivered speech on Annada Thakurm founder of DRSA.

BA Paramadvaiti Swami called on the government of Uttar Pradesh to reconsider the proposal of merging Shri Dham Vrindavan with Mathura by constituting a Municipal Corporation (Nagar Nigam).  The proposed Municipal Corporation will be a disaster for the ecology, heritage, culture and identity of Vrindavan, he said.
